The Unknown Road Part 2: The Dunes
As we left the forest and got closer to Pismo Beach, we noticed the clouds getting darker and raindrops began blanketing our windshield. This was not ideal from a photography standpoint but we pressed on.
We arrived at the dunes and began hiking into the area. The rain subsided (for now) but the light was flat. Regardless if we would not be able to make any images, we were excited to explore a new location. Eventually Noel, Eric and myself broke off on our separate paths.
There really is something special about sand dunes. The shapes and lines are so peaceful. After roaming around for about fifteen minutes, I noticed that I could not see either Noel or Eric anymore. There was something nice about getting lost. I felt so small in the vast dune field. So many compositional possibilities. One of my favorite aspects of the photography experience is seeing a composition start to come to life as you are walking through an area. Then suddenly you think…there it is.
After about two hours of exploration and a few compositions I ran into Noel. It was getting late and the clouds continued to get darker. We made our way back and eventually found Eric on a bluff by the car. We shared some stories of our afternoon experiences and then packed up for the evening. Shortly thereafter the heart of the storm arrived.
It was another fun road trip in the books. We headed back to Oxnard to meet up with Kat for some dinner before heading back down to San Diego. It was a great weekend. Below are a few compositions from my visit to the dunes.
Have a great week everyone. - Marco
