Shooting Local

As we enter a new year and a new decade, I found myself reflecting back a lot more so than in past years. 2019 was easily the happiest year of my life. Kat and I began writing the next chapter in our book of life, I reconnected with old friends and narrowed my focus on a few bigger life goals.

From a photographic standpoint, I spent a lot less time in the field and made a lot less images than in years past. Although that sounds quite negative it was truly a blessing. It gave me focus, appreciation and creatively challenged me during those times I was able to spend a morning outside.

In 2019 I spent a lot of time shooting local and re-discovered the my beautiful local stomping grounds.

Not too far from where I live is a park with a 360 view of the local towns. I have made many images there over the past eight years. This year I challenged myself to look deeper and really challenge myself to find new compositions, coming on different days throughout the year when time permitted. On certain days the weather transforms the landscape into scenes straight out of Mars. Lone space stations sitting above the hills. Monster clouds running through the hills. I had only made a few images from my local park but they have been some of my favorite images. I connected with them as they bring me back to the younger days when I would get lost in my imagination of distant worlds. These moments brought me back to those days of no rules and your mind ran freely to the edges of your dreams.

This set of images are some of my favorites moments of 2019 experienced at my local park. - Marco
