The Great Escape
August marks our sixth month of the pandemic. Kat and I were craving some peace so we escaped to an isolated area in California.
We arrived a few hours before sunset so we explored the area. There were so many mesmerizing colors within the landscape. Green, blue and purple tones danced alongside warm reds, oranges and yellows harmoniously. Beautiful Manzanita trees hovered above providing shade. This truly was a mesmerizing area that provided that peace we were looking for.
As nightfall came, we made dinner and sat under the stars. The air was warm and our surroundings were silent. Slowly, the Milky Way started to appear. It had been some time since we last made it out to see this magnificent light show. It felt good to be back. We spent a couple hours just staring up and enjoying the peaceful evening. There’s just something incredibly special about getting lost under a starry night. No matter how many times we go stargazing, it never gets old. After we got our fix, we turned in to get a few hours sleep before sunrise.
We woke up to a thin crescent moon during blue-hour. Kat went back to bed for a few more z’s but I stayed up to enjoy the quiet pre-dawn light show. I walked around our area and noticed a few scenes that really caught my eye. The colors I saw yesterday were starting to glow in the soft morning light. I was able to spend some time with a few scenes that resonated with me.
Shortly thereafter, Kat had woken up and we spent some quiet time simply enjoying the silence. Kat meditated and journaled as I continued to explore the area.
After a few hours, it was time to start heading back home. We packed all our things, cleaned our area and said goodbye to our little area of paradise.
We hope to return again soon to revisit this hidden gem. Below are a few images I was able to make during our trip.
